Maleficent Review

In the first real blockbuster of the summer (sarcasm) the classic ‘Sleeping Beauty’ story gets a fun, new twist. Angelina Jolie, as you already know, stars in this wonderful fantasy adventure as the evil, mean-spirited and hateful Maleficent.

Some people probably think, “Oh, it’s Sleeping Beauty. I’ve heard that story a million times.” or “Didn’t Disney already make this movie a million years ago?” Well I’m here to tell you….SHUT IT. Do you or do you not see the picture above? That costume is AMAZING! No, a movie isn’t good or bad based on the costumes (See: In The Name Of The King), but this film is quite wonderful. Yes, you think you know the story, but that that’s the whole point of the movie. You get a whole different side of the tale.

Now, we all know that Aurora (aka ‘Sleeping Beauty’) is cursed by Maleficent at her christening. Said curse declares that on her 16th birthday, Aurora will prick her finger and fall into a death-like-sleep FOREVER!

Dun-dun-duhhhh!! Of course there is a stipulation. The curse can be broken only by ‘true loves kiss’. But, this movie takes a new spin on what transpires before said 16th birthday. And keeping with the new theme in Disney movies, one can’t just fall in love at first sight anymore…it’s gotta be real, yo! Is there such a thing?! OMG I DON’T KNOW!!

Maleficent takes you on a fast-paced, action-packed adventure. The acting was just ‘OK’ but the scenery was sublime and the story was just really fun. If you have kids and you enjoy Lord of the Rings kind of CGI, I highly recommend this movie. If you don’t have kids…I still highly recommend this movie. It seriously was a lot of fun and brings back the fun classic tale with a new spin.

Good stuff.
